Introduction of souvenirs available in Chile, South America (for yourself!)

Hello everyone! My name is Minami.

I would like to introduce some souvenirs that I actually bought on my trip to Chile and liked for myself, which I recommend not only for dispersion (bulk) but also for yourself.

The souvenirs for Balamaki are summarized in a separate article as they have become lengthy. If you are interested in, you can check byClicking here!

Lapis lazuli

Northern Chile is famous as one of the world's leading producers of lapis lazuli. The deep blue color of lapis lazuli is calming just by looking at it. Why not find your own favorite items such as accessories and interior goods?

However, accessory-type items are quite expensive, so I feel that those who prefer figurines should consider buying tabletop figurines in the form of gemstones.

Recommendations

  • Specialties of Northern Chile
  • Beautiful deep blue
  • Popular as a power stone
  • accessories, interior goods, and more.
  • Buy from a reputable store, as there are fakes.

copperware

Chile is also famous for its copper production.

I have seen cups and other tableware and, as far as I have seen, notepads made of copper covers!

It is quite a pinch and easy to choose from at souvenir shops, so if you want to show your Chilean-ness, please consider purchasing souvenirs here.

yerba maté tea

Yerba Mate is a traditional tea widely enjoyed in South America. It has a distinctive bitter and savory taste and is rich in caffeine. In Chile, yerba mate tea sets and bombillas (metal straws for drinking yerba mate) are popular souvenirs.

This yerba mate tea cup, or a bombilla for yerba mate tea (bombilla) are pretty much sold in Japan, or very expensive. If you are thinking of getting one someday, I strongly recommend you to buy it locally.

I'm sure they also sell water bottles for yerba mate tea. All modern kids drink from water bottles, so if you want to use it for daily use, I would suggest you do so.

Recommendations

  • Traditional South American Teas
  • Unique bitterness and savory taste
  • Also rich in caffeine

Chile is a country of many different flowers, so there is a wide variety of honey. Some flavors of honey, such as lavender and rosemary, are rare in Japan. It is recommended not only for your own use, but also as a souvenir.

Chanchito and clay pottery from Pomaire

Pomaireis a rustic and warm pottery made in a town in southern Chile. The animal-shaped “chanchitos” available there are particularly popular and recommended for interior decoration or as small containers.

Is this okay? I'm not sure if this is safe...lol.

Anyway, Pomaire is a lovely place, so if you are in a city center and have a little extra time for a day or so, please go!

Chanchito is a three-legged pig figurine that is said to bring good luck and is also available in palm-sized versions!

Mapuche Goods

Chile has an indigenous people called Mapuche, mainly in the southern part of the country.

Basically, most Chileans living in Chile are said to have inherited the Mapuche land.

(In fact, sometimes you can tell from a Chilean surname, such as Mapuche, etc.)

Chile is a very diverse country, with a variety of ethnic groups besides the Mapuche, but the Mapuche are said to have the largest population.

It is especially famous in the south, but the souvenirs themselves can be purchased almost anywhere. Ornaments and other ethnic items may be good for those who like ethnic things.

If you like music, you may want to look for some unique music instruments in Mapuche.

It is a unique and interesting instrument that makes a sound with its mouth.

Mafalda Goods

Mafalda is really an Argentine author, but it is also a popular picture book and animation in Chile.

To give those who don't know what it's about, it's a story like Snoopy's, with loose illustrations and a relaxed atmosphere, but it's a story in which adults are asked to answer some very important questions about their daily lives, which annoys (?) those around them and makes them think. It is a story that makes you think.

It might be a good idea to buy picture books to study Spanish.

私がチリに滞在した時はたまたま高級モールJUMBO(ジュンボ)でコラボグッズを展開していたのでかわいくて買いました。

I still use it! These oven-related goods are more plentiful in South America than in Japan, aren't they?

I highly recommend buying these Latin American character goods! First of all, I think it is still difficult to find them in Japan, unless it is at an event.

Food

Dried peaches for Mote con huesillo

Well, you see.

This is not sold in Japan.

何回も買おうと試みたけど種付きは売っておりませんでした。

I wonder if they sell dried peaches for this kind of processing since there are basically no farmers in Japan who produce only delicious sweet peaches in the rear palace to make these in the first place...

There is a great demand in some parts of the world, just like dried shiitake mushrooms, so please, Japanese farmers, consider selling them! (Is it just me?)

ふるさと納税で桃を頼んで自分で乾燥させるのもありかもしれない。もし、今年何かまだ選んでない人はついでに選んでみるのもいいかもしれませんね。

Manjar(マンハール)

It used to be easy to find Manjar for small portions, so it was convenient for dismemberment, but I can't find it these days... maybe due to plastic reduction...

Manjar is a South American delicacy! It is made by boiling down condensed milk to caramelize it, and although it is high in calories, it is delicious when spread on bread. It is definitely one of the most memorable flavors of Chile.

In the meantime, it is available in Japan, so it may not have to be such a high priority?

Pipeño – ピペーニョ

Pipeño!

This is a drink not to be forgotten on Chile's Independence Day.

Only available in Chile, which is a little sweeter? It is a wine.

I encourage you to take it home.

If you also want to make a drink called Terremoto, you need this to make it.

Granadina(グラナディーナ)

Grenadine syrup is a drink made with sugar and pomegranate. It contains no alcohol. It can be drunk as a soft drink or used to flavor ice cream and other desserts.

Actually, I am ashamed to say that I don't remember drinking it myself, but I thought it was not sold very often in Japan, so I would like to introduce it to you.

Pisco Sour ピスコサワー

Pisco Sour is the drink of Chilean pride! (which some will tell you is not the same)

In particular, there is a pisco sour flavored with chili moya, a famous Chilean fruit, so be sure to buy one.

This kind of lime flavor is the most standard pisco sour. (I think)

At least the least expensive ones are the easiest to find.
