[Vegetable Garden Diary] Dead Seedlings, New Seedlings [October 2022

Hi there, it's Minami.

There were major developments this month.

For previous articles here. Last time was here.

We continue to do our best in a small space, growing plants on the balcony and a little indoors.

Plants from the house

  • Dill

I bought this dill from a tiny seedling last time and it is growing nicely.

It grows more pliantly in various directions than the dill I used to grow. It feels softer.

What a surprise that it had been left to grow for three weeks.

Perhaps this growth was supported by the fact that this planter is a special aquifer-able planter.

An aquifer planter, as the name implies, is a planter that stores water under the soil and uses the remaining water when needed, when the soil is not wet, to water it for you over a period of days, so to speak!

Why not buy them if you are growing in a planter, especially if it is difficult to take care of them every day?

withered

I didn't water it for a few days, and then...

Everything was dead except the rosemary: ・・・・・

However, this is the story of this planter, and dill survives in other planters. Rosemary is tough!

I understand bellflowers, but why is even mint so dead? Wasn't it one of the weeds?

I will continue to do my best in cultivation, somehow pushing down the feeling of "I'm not a good grower.

The wildflowers were left out for about 3 weeks, but after watering them again, they grew quickly. That's what wildflowers (aka weeds) are for!

Purchase new tools and seedlings

He's too old, so this time he's resorting to seedlings!

As follows.

Fuchsia

chamomile

Maple leaf geranium

Stevia

Here they are, one by one!

Fuchsia

Do you know the flower called fuchsia?

I think that only core flower fans know about it. This is the first time I have learned about it.

This flower, also known as "lady's earring," is a type of red flower that blooms elegantly face down.

I bought it because I thought the red flowers would look good on my balcony.

When I bought it, it was in full bloom, so I wondered if it would last long this time of year and through the winter. I wondered if it would last long from this time of year through the winter.

I did some research and to my surprise, it seems to be quite susceptible to heat and cold.

I want it to live a long life, so I will keep an eye on it while carefully watering it.

chamomile

Winter means chamomile!

I can drink chamomile tea or something.

So, I planted some seeds in October, but the sprouts died, so I thought, if I'm going to start growing chamomile now, let's just buy some chamomile! So I bought some chamomile.

Momiji-ba-geranium (Geranium momiji-ba-geranium)

Do you all know what a geranium is?

The leaves of geraniums are another herb, and this is one of the many different types of geraniums, called momiji-bazelanium, which has maple-shaped leaves that are autumnal.

I fell in love with geraniums because I used geranium skin care products at the Herb Garden. According to the official story, when Chibimaruko-chan's family was suffering from atopic dermatitis, they used geranium skin care products and were cured?

↑up here, because it's really nice just to look at the herbs! If you are planning to visit Kawaguchiko or the suburbs of Mt.

(Not a stealth one lol)

At any rate, geraniums can be used in cooking as long as they are common and ordinary.

I've heard that they are not sensitive to cold, so I'm going to grow them in a room.

Stevia

Perhaps you have seen stevia in the name of a product ingredient?

The stevia plant is a common ingredient in non-sugar beverages as an alternative to adding sugar.

Instead of using manufactured sugar, these things add sweetness to drinks and other products!

The berries taste sweet when you tear off the leaves and gently chew them!

I bought it because I thought I could put it in a sweet herbal tea when I wanted a sweet herbal tea.

What we learned this time

What will be the most important lesson learned this time around?

When in doubt, turn to seedlings rather than seeds

It is.

Growing from seed is the best from a cosmetic standpoint, and above all, the level of excitement when the eyes appear is tremendous, but

Because I've killed so many plants this way.

And, if you can't or won't water for long periods of time, we recommend that you carefully select the plants you plan to grow in advance, or use water-storable planters! (If you want to save money, try crafting your own water-storing planters out of plastic bottles!)
