Chkmeruli, a Georgian dish from Matsuya that was talked about, goes well with rice?

Hi there, it's Minami.

Do you know what rice is popular with some people these days?

Yes, you can eat Georgian Chkmeruli at that Matsuya.

Georgia is the former Soviet bloc. I was curious, of course.

So, I decided to go to Matsuya for the first time for Chkmeruli.

I'd like to report on that in this issue!

Matsuya's Chkmeruli is served with rice and miso soup.

I've never been to Matsuya before, and this was the first time I've been there, but it was clean and cozy.

Now, this combination.

The question here is, "Is it good with rice? It means.

In fact, when you try it...

Hmmm, it doesn't go bad with me, but I think the bread goes better...

It probably has soy sauce in it, so it doesn't go well with rice. The taste is strong.

More than that, the garlic is amazing.

It was about five times more garlicky than I thought it would be. Also, cheese.

The ingredients are simple, just sweet potatoes, chicken and cheese to taste and eat.

The fire is lit by a candle underneath and the atmosphere is like that of an inn.

The chicken is too hot to eat. I waited about 10 minutes.

What about to-go?

I took it home with me.

You can bake salads and breads to give the dining table an atmosphere of its own.

There, it looks so yummy!

When I ate at Matsuya, it had a Japanese style atmosphere, but at home, I was able to prepare it in a Western style.

If you eat it at home or reheat it, the cheese will revive itself.

Isn't it amazing how thick it is?

To be honest, the taste itself is quite strong, as you would expect from Matsuya. I sensed that it was made for a side dish of white rice. It's delicious, though.

Since the sweet potatoes were cut into large pieces, it was a delicious dish that could be offset by the slightly sweet sweet potatoes.

I personally prefer to eat it with bread and salad.

Of course, there was a salad set at Matsuya as well, but the salad was lighter and more like lettuce than cabbage, so the cheese was heavier and easier to eat.

How can I eat Georgian food at a place other than Matsuya? Any restaurants in the city?

Matsuya, as you all know, is not a restaurant that specializes in Georgian cuisine.

Now that the unprecedented Chkmeruli boom has passed, you've missed out...but you want to eat somewhere else...don't you?

Yes, it's easy to make at home.

Roughly speaking, the main ingredients are cheese, chicken, garlic, and a set of things that are easily needed for the stew.

Here's a Matsuya-inspired recipe for a Matsuya-inspired Chkmeruli.

The above recipe seems to be similar to Matsuya's, but the recipe inspired by the real Chkmeruli is surprisingly simple in its ingredients. Maybe it's easier to try this one?

The shop is located in Kichijoji. Here, you can enjoy Russian and Georgian cuisine.

Since Georgia is a former Soviet bloc, it's nice to be able to enjoy Russian food as well.

Even though the interior is gorgeous, it has a nostalgic atmosphere.

And what's more, it seems that not only food but also various other events are held at any time.

Balalaika, accordion, a cappella and other Russian and Eastern European music, and a free Russian language class on the 4th Saturday of every month at 16:00! I want to go there!

Be careful when you go, as the Georgian Khinkali, or Chkmeruli, is only served Monday through Thursday weekdays after 5:00 p.m.

Matsuya's Chkmeruli is only around 700 yen, which is not the cheapest price for Matsuya as a whole, but even so, if you use so much cheese and make sure it's always hot like an inn, you'll find a cospa that's better than the price.

The Chkmeruli at Matsuya has ended this time and we are now on our next Matsuya world tour, but I highly recommend you to try the Georgian cuisine at least once.

I know it's hard to go to a restaurant right now with the coronavirus, but I hope you do when you settle in.
