Sustainability

Want to build a career specializing in environment and climate change! List of websites for such people [Job Hunting].

Hi there, it's Minami.

I am fortunate to have a job that focuses on sustainability and the environment, but I have compiled this article as a reminder of sites and services that I have found helpful in my job search, and I hope that some of you will find it useful.

(Oh, and of course, I'm not paid to make recommendations.)

 So here you go.

Ecoriku

I think it is a fairly new service.

This is a recruitment site operated by Grace, a human resources company specializing in the environment.

We also hold seminars from time to time, so even if you are a beginner in the environmental field, you will have a chance to learn what kind of jobs there are related to the environment! I think that even beginners can start learning about the environment with confidence!

Eco-Rik assisted us once and introduced us to many different and interesting jobs. We also appreciate the interviews and other assistance as needed.

Magazine-based job sites

Surprisingly, you may find job listings on the websites of environmental magazines.

I've got a whole article here about environmental and climate magazines, so take a look!

In addition, if you read magazines, you may discover new companies, such as "I didn't know that this company makes products that take the environment into consideration," so I think it is useful for job hunting in that sense as well.

I want to be involved in the environment from the very beginning, in the long run! Rather than that, magazines are good for understanding what is being talked about and so on.

JICA Partner

PARTNER is a recruitment page operated by the implementing agency that integrates Japan's Official Development Assistance (ODA), which is independent of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The main types of work we see are related to international aid and international cooperation activities. Rather than looking for long-term employment from the start, the main types of work are annual contract style (with renewal in some cases), part-time work, and volunteer work.

This one may be more biased toward people who want to change jobs. However, if you are interested in gaining experience, even at the volunteer level, you may be able to find something good if you are looking for it.

I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a more public job, or who wants to put their experience first! I think this is a good place for people who want to find a more public job or who want to prioritize their experience first. There are many interesting jobs available, so you can learn a lot just by looking at them.

Environmental jobs are not always necessarily available, so be careful there!

If you want to find an overseas affiliated company, make use of this service.

If you want to join a company in a country that is on the cutting edge of the environment... or if you are interested in that overseas consultancy... why not take a look? I think there is no harm in registering.

Basically, there are Japanese companies, but most Japanese companies are also recruiting for or at overseas locations, so English is required.

However, I think that most environmental jobs are global (especially in the sustainability field), so I think it's a good idea to follow Linkedin, where you can easily find foreign companies that use English or foreign languages.

In the meantime, it would be a good idea to follow up with companies you are interested in, apply for jobs, and so on.

My personal feeling is that if a company is strong in the environment and quite large, it is also quite strong overseas (international). Of course, I am sure there are many things for the domestic market.

After three years of working in the environmental field for now, you will naturally receive scout information, so I think it is worth registering.

It's also easier to follow foreign news, and perhaps more user-friendly than using Twitter as a source of foreign news?

Linkedin allows you to apply directly to companies, and there are recruiters around the world who can help you find a job.

First, create your own history and make it appealing. You may be contacted by a recruiter.

In addition, there are many jobs advertised on Linkedin, and you can find jobs that are not easily accessible through Japanese-language searches alone.

You can sort like a job site on Linkedin to look up and apply for positions in your field of interest, so please take a look if you are interested.

Ministry and government websites

In rare cases, the job is offered by the Ministry of Environment or the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

The link above is from the Ministry of the Environment.

国交省だったり、外務省だったり、様々な省庁で環境関連の仕事があるかと思います。

If you are interested, please check the website. If you are interested in a particular section (for example, if biodiversity is of particular interest to you, check out the information on the Natural Environment Planning Section...).

Also, the United Nations (UN) seems to have relatively more openings for environment-related posts.

If you are interested in working in the UN or government sector, you should definitely check it out.

I think the internship is the main thing, but I am sure it will be fulfilling.

UN-related is quite often a requirement for interns to be in school, or to have a master's or doctorate, so if you can prepare in advance, it is even more advisable.

If you are interested in going on to a ministry or an international organization in the future, it would be a good idea to advance your academic career as well, if necessary.

Subscribe to related mailing lists

Sign up for a human rights or environmental mailis!

I would personally recommend the UN Forum mailing list.

I was told this by a friend of mine, but I get so many job-related e-mails every day. (I really get about a dozen a day...)

There may be times when too much information is annoying. But I don't care what kind of information you want! If you are looking for information on any subject, this is the perfect place for you.

You just might find the job you're looking for! This is used by a truly wide variety of companies, municipalities and international organizations.

Besides looking for jobs, the main thing is to share webinars, etc., so it might be a good idea to participate in such things.

Sites of companies and organizations you are interested in

This is not limited to the environment by any stretch of the imagination, but in the course of your life and job hunting, you may come across an organization or company that suddenly catches your attention.

When you are listening to an external webinar, you may see a company name that interests you, or a company whose activities you were interested in once before, and you want to know what they are doing.

まとめておくといいでしょう。

If you are looking for such companies, look for their names and see if they have employment information on their company website pages!

This is because, after all, when recruiting through a job hunting website, the company recruiting as an employer

コストがかかってしまうんですよね。

特に人気の団体や企業ですと、自社のHPに掲載しただけで募集が終了してしまうこともあるかと思うので、特に志望度が高ければ高いほど、自分で調べてみるというのは大事かもしれませんね。
