[Sprouting Time] 2019 Veranda Cultivation - April - [Home Garden Diary]

Hi there, it's Minami.

It's already June and I'm late to update you, but here's a summary of how the vegetable garden is growing for April.

I am growing on my balcony and I have been growing a few different kinds of plants. I'm not very polite, so I grow only the ones that are easy to grow.

April is the time when the seeds you sowed in March and early April sprout. In this article, we've compiled a list of what a home garden looks like in April.

(1) Beats

First up are the beets. As for the beets, I'm growing them because I want to eat Russian food.

Beets grow very well. I planted two different kinds of beets in March and the result was Detroit (the bright red kind of beetroot). It was growing especially well. The germination rate was a whopping 100 percent.

The seeds were tinted blue, so it's easy to see where the seed shells are attached. Even so, when they grew a little more, they disappeared somewhere. I guess the germination rate of the seeds I bought was just not good. But Detroit also bought them from the same seller, so it's strange.

On the other hand, the red and white ovals of the Chioggia are beautiful with overlapping red and white ovals, but the germination rate of that one is probably around 20%.

The sprouts were fully grown and I moved them from the seed growing area to the planter.

The larger each spacing, the easier it is to grow, but I planted all the sprouted beets for my experiments this year anyway.

(2) Korean Lettuce

The Korean lettuce was also growing nicely. I think they are lovely to look at this time of year with their yellowish greenish color.

I think it looks more like a lettuce than a sunchu.

(3) Blueberry

There are two types of blueberries, the powder blue and the rabbit-eye type, of which I am a rabbit-eye. I think I've been growing them for about three years now.

The photos were so beautiful. The blueberries seem to have a lot of miniature lilies in bloom at this time of year.

Fall is a great time to look at them in all seasons because of the uplifting colors of the leaves. I really recommend blueberries as an ornamental, too. It would be a hooray if all these flowering parts would take on a body....

(4)Raspberries

compared to the article for March. Are you sure these were the only raspberries that had that branch? I have to say. Raspberries grow on their own, even if you leave them alone. They are really good for people who want to get a proper green.

The only drawback is the occasional insects and thorns during harvest time. Still, we don't get many bugs this year.

(5) Pak choi (coriander)

I'm growing pak choi because I want to make a chili dish. Here's a picture of it when it started to sprout. It's pretty cute looking.

Pak choi is often sold as a dried herb, but it's still fresher and more fragrant when it's fresh.

It's impressive that there's already a crunchy prototype from a young age.

6) Dill

Dill can be so tall.

They are growing up fast and upward.

It was so overgrown that I shared it with a friend who was interested in home gardening.

I'd like to use it, but it's hotter from now on, so I pick it and use it is honestly not. Dill is active in the fall~winter.

I think I'll make a pickle.

7) Mint

Mint. It's growing strong. The green color is beautiful.

In April, the stems and leaves grew hair on the stems and leaves.

Is it a change of clothes? In the winter, it was the so-called normal mint of the vine.

When you touch it, it's not a spiky house, it's fluffy. It's not particularly harmful, but I was a little surprised to see it for the first time.

(8) 20 day rabish

We sowed new seeds of Hakka daikon.
This is the first time I planted these seeds.

This is the first time for me to plant these seeds.

It's called a 20-day radish and it grows in 20 days? I'm looking forward to it.

How did you like it? I'm growing other plants such as chamomile, but they didn't germinate in April. I'll water it a little more and watch it.

How well will each plant grow in April? I hope that this has been somewhat helpful for those who are
