April 22, Earth Day

April 22 is Earth Day.

It is a day to think, feel and act about the earth and the environment.

As the world's largest global day of environmental action, various actions have taken place around the world since 1970.

Just as there is Mother's Day and Father's Day, we want to expand Earth Day.

Earth Day began in 1970 with a student's call to action.

However, Earth Day is not just a "memorial day.

It is a movement in which each of us thinks and acts for the earth and the environment.

Origin: The event was first held in the United States in 1970. It became a widespread international event to raise awareness of environmental protection and the planet, and to encourage action to address environmental issues.

Simultaneous events: A variety of environmental activities and educational events are taking place around the world.

May 9: Adoption Anniversary of UNFCCC Adoption Anniversary

Origin: This is the day the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was adopted in 1992. It was established to promote international cooperation in combating climate change.

EIC Netsays, Japan signed in 1992 and ratified in 1993, and the Convention entered into force on March 21, 1994, 90 days after the ratification of the 50th country under Article 23.

Concurrent Events: There may be international conferences and events related to climate change on this date, but to be honest, it is less event-related than other anniversaries.

May 22 International Day for Biological Diversity

Origin: Established in 1993 to commemorate the date when the Convention on Biological Diversity was adopted. It aims to emphasize the importance of biodiversity and to encourage the protection and restoration of ecosystems for sustainable development.

Concurrent events: International conferences and programs on biodiversity will take place.

These anniversaries and international events play an important role in raising awareness of environmental issues and promoting commitment to environmental protection. 30 May: Zero Waste Day

In Japan, the day is known as ‘Day of Zero Garbage’ and is marked by various community and social campaigns on waste reduction. The day is an opportunity to talk about how to promote recycling and the efficient use of resources in our lives and economy.

June 5 World Environment Day

June 5 is Environment Day. It is also sometimes referred to as World Environment Day.

This was established to commemorate the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment, which was held in Stockholm from June 5, 1972.

The United Nations has designated June 5 as "World Environment Day" in response to a Japanese proposal, and in Japan, the Basic Environment Law (1993) established "Environment Day.

World Environment Day (Environment Day)" seems to have been initiated 51 years ago at the proposal of Japan and Senegal.

I heard that June 5 is designated as "Environment Day" under the Basic Environment Law. (I didn't know this was the law until I looked it up this time! (I didn't know that it was set by law until I looked into it in detail this time!)

In a sense, this may be what makes it different from other environment-related anniversaries.

Origin: Established in 1972 by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). It aims to raise international awareness and encourage action on environmental issues.

Concurrent Events: A variety of events are held around the world on World Environment Day to discuss policies and initiatives related to environmental protection.

There are often environmental events held in places like Yoyogi Park!

Earth Dayetc. are also being held!

8 June: World Oceans Day

Marine Day is a day to deepen our appreciation and understanding of Japan's oceans. The oceans are an integral part of our lives and play an important role in the abundance of marine products and tourism resources, as well as in regulating the climate.

However, in recent years, the effects of marine pollution and climate change have become increasingly serious. On the occasion of Ocean Day, it is important to reaffirm our commitment to protecting the oceans and to think about a sustainable marine future.

Small actions such as recycling, plastic reduction and ocean protection activities may make a big difference.

June - Environment Month

This one is a little different from the others, but June is designated as "Environment Month," a month to think about the environment more than usual! June is designated as the "Environment Month".
