[Gardening diary in Japan] March 2024, starting with weed control [Oregano, mint, rosemary, wild berries].

Hi there, it's Minami.

This is a home garden diary for March 2024.

I like to experiment with many different kinds of herbs and other usable and edible plants, and since I don't want to consume too many of each, I grow a small variety of each type.

Again, here are some of the good and the bad both.

 So here you go.

The pak choi (coriander)would be deeper green if I hadn't taken care of it.

After leaving it for a while, the leaves became even tougher. Overall.

Pakuchi is no exception. Personally, I have never been able to grow pak choi properly for more than a year, so I learned that this is what happens.

I was able to produce some pak choi that grows taller and some that don't. I wonder what the difference is.

By the way, this is the one that is relatively not growing taller. I think the less tall they are, the better they can survive the winter...

The flowers I bought are blooming well even though I'm almost completely neglected.

This flower is a nameless pansy? but it is still going strong.

I think I bought it in November or December, but isn't it a bargain to be able to enjoy it for more than 3 months?

wild strawberry

I bought some stuff at Celia (100s of dollars) for weed control...

I purchased artificial turf sheet blocks and wood panels at the gardening section of Celia, a 100-yen store.

But it was blowing away when the first winds of spring blew in the storm. Sweat

The term was fine, but the artificial turf did not have joints on it, so it was too light and was flying.

If it is to be laid outside, it must have a jointed section!

I looked something up on the internet and found a lot of stuff like the one below. What's more, they're actually cheaper than the 100s if you're going to use a lot of them. ・・・・ If you want to DIY a small scene, it would be better to buy it from 100s.

I heard that artificial turf is prone to microplastic problems later on, so I decided not to buy any more at this time as much as possible.

In the meantime, I'm going to do my best with the wood paneling (also, the joints are made of plastic. But I don't want to be too sensitive).

Wild berries that still have potential to bear fruit.

Wild berries can still be harvested!

We have only harvested less than 10 in all this season, but we hope to harvest a little more if we grow them for the next year or two.

Herbs such as sage and oregano are still present!

Sage and oregano and other herbs are alive and well.

At first I was worried that they did not grow all the way, but I was very relieved to see that they grew well after the winter.

Oh, by the way, the aromaticas I was supposed to be growing are gone before I know it...

It looks like they were eaten. (I bought this herb to protect it from pests, but I didn't know it was eaten first. Insects in my neighborhood are very strong!)

Conclusion

How was the article?

I plan to continue to grow them without too much effort.
