[Gardening Diary in Japan] Harvest! November 2023 [Oregano, mint, rosemary, wild berries].

Hi there, it's Minami.

I like to try a lot of different things, so even if I get too many of each, I have trouble consuming them, so I grow a variety of things little by little.

Again, here are some of the good and the bad both.

 So here you go.

Fruitful autumn. Red berries on wild berries

What a surprise! It's been two months. Finally, the wild berries have borne fruit.

I tried it immediately.

They are small, but they taste like strawberries!

I was more impressed with the sourness than the sweetness, but I am very happy to be able to harvest something that was grown at home.

The aphids: 。。。。 And ants

*Please be careful if you are not a fan of insects.

I kind of got aphids and ants on the wild berries from where the flowers bloomed.

Aphids have bothered me so much this year that when I see aphids, I get a grudge buildup. LOL!

I thought, "Are these ants eating aphids?" But when I looked it up, I found that this is actually a symbiosis based on the cooperative relationship that is often seen in ecosystems.

It seems that the ants hang around near the aphids to protect them from external enemies such as ladybugs that would normally eat them, and in return, the ants enjoy the sweet feces that the aphids expel after they have been slurping their nectar. (Amazing.)

I wonder if the netting might increase the probability of the wild berries being killed because the birds and larger flying type insects that would eat them are no longer processing the aphids.

But if I take the net, the wild berries will be eaten from now on. Which in the world should I take? ・・・・

Now, the pak choi looks like this. ↓↓

The pak choi was plucked for cooking on a regular basis and it kind of lost its height.

When collecting pak choi, I wondered how I should take it... and I did a little research here as well,

Mint continues to be eaten.

Mint continues to be eaten by aphids. It is hard to believe, but mint is eaten.

But that's okay.

I would like to use mint for cooking in January and February, when it is cooler, because I believe the aphids will be gone by then!

I'm willing to rent it out as a feeding ground for now (and hope to get ladybugs in the future).

Caterpillar on lavender

Lavender is relatively bug-free because of its basic smell,

When I observed the flowers the other day, I found brown caterpillars attached to them.

I wonder if they are protecting themselves.

Rosemary seems perfectly fine.

The leaves are as stiff as ever and no one is allowed to penetrate through its skin.

The pachira, a houseplant, is growing rapidly

Pachira, a houseplant, is growing quite well!

Should I cut and reduce the number of leaves any longer? It even seems as if it would be better to cut and reduce the number of leaves.

Conclusion
