Gardening

[Garden Diary in Japan] Is there such a thing as a home vegetable garden? I let it all wither away, but I'm back with a fresh start with herbs and berries!

Hi there, it's Minami.

First of all, I like to try a lot of different things, and since I don't want to get too many of each for consumption, I grow a little bit of each variety.

They all died, so I planted new ones.

To my surprise, I did not have much room in my life after the new year, and all the plants I had grown before died.

So we bought new plants this time!

The main policy is the same as before, grow only berries and herbs! No pressure! (If I push too hard, they will die anyway!) (If we try too hard, they will die anyway!).

Wild Berries

Cuban mint

oregano (Origanum vulgare)

Rosemary

to grow! All of them are easy to use for cooking!

wild berry

Here is the first one. I bought wild berries as seedlings.

It has yet to bear any fruit, but it grows in all four seasons, so I think it is a great plant for beginners and those who want to do vegetable gardening on a lark.

I am looking forward to seeing the fruit from now on!

About berries,Planter Potis the strong impression I personally have to buy inseedis also available on the internet too!

Basil & Cuban Mint

Next, let me introduce Cuban mint and basil.

First, basil! It is the plant in the upper right corner of this photo. To be honest, dried basil is easily available at any supermarket around here, but there is no substitute for fresh basil in terms of aroma and taste.

After all, the aroma of herbal products is totally different when they are fresh! That is why I bought it this time.

Many of you probably make pizza toast or pasta for some reason. Basil is used with high probability in Italian cuisine, why don't you try growing it? Let's grow it together!

As for the Cubamint, I don't know if you can see it in this picture, but I bought this one on Mercari as well.

The Cuban mint should be on the left side of the photo, but it seems to have died during the Mercury delivery...

When it arrived in my hands, it had already turned black.

It doesn't help that it was cheap, but I have an image that it tends to die easily, especially if it's Cubamint and not Peppermint (I've grown both).

If it had been peppermint, I don't think this would have happened, but Cubamint has rather soft leaves, so I guess it can't withstand the impact of such mail. (By the way, the oregano I bought at the same time is doing fine.)

I have planted it in the meantime, so I am hoping that the soil will help it get healthy, but I will keep an eye on it and not expect too much.

By the way, Cuban mint is also known as mojito mint or yerba buena.

To be honest, I still think that yerba buena has a stronger aroma than peppermint, and if you actually want to use it for food or drinks such as mojitos, Cuban mint is more suitable, even if it is a little more difficult to grow.

Rosemary

Rosemary is surprisingly found growing in people's yards in Tokyo. The fragrance is very nice when you touch it!

Honestly speaking, until todayRosemaryis the thing I use only when I make hamburg meat (Japanese home cuisine), but I would like to take this opportunity to try out more and more recipes!

Rosemary has fairly firm leaves and grows well, so I think it would be easy to grow well indoors. It looks cute like a Christmas tree (?).

oregano (Origanum vulgare)

I happened to find fresh oregano on Mercari and bought it!

I have yet to eat fresh oregano, so I am really looking forward to seeing it grow!

It is a surprisingly long and slender herb with cute little leaves. It has a different shape from other herb plants, which gives it a rich variety in terms of the appearance of the planter and makes it enjoyable to look at^!

Oregano is used surprisingly often in Latin American cuisine.

Besides, it is a very palatable herb that is quite easy to use in fish dishes. For example, using dried oregano in pasta is tastier than using dried basil, as it changes the flavor properly!

This time, I have made a fresh start and bought a new set of products, so I will do my best this time, but I will do so in a relaxed manner.

The mosswort is one that I had previously killed, but it still wasn't very dead, and I would love to have the opportunity to grow it again!
