2019 Balcony Cultivation ~ August ~ [Home Vegetable Garden Diary]

Hello everyone, my name is Minami. How are you all doing?

It's been a hot August. The heat has taken its toll on my vegetable garden too.

This time around, as the formerJuly report, I would like to continue with our report on the status of our home garden.

blueberry

The blueberries that started to ripen around the end of June are about to come to an end.

The last fruit is turning more and more blue.

It's beautiful.

The fruits, which were once blue, are now turning from pink to blue. Blueberries change color a lot, even in spring, summer, autumn and winter, so I never get tired of looking at them.

Even the unripe fruit looks cute like a lily of the valley.

The leaves will turn a stunning orange in the fall, so I'm looking forward to the day and nighttime warmth from now on.

They have really good price and you can get many fruits.

By the way, don't you think the surface of these blueberries is kind of whitish?

This is a powder known as bloom (fruit flour).

It is said that the berries secrete it to protect themselves and keep them from drying out.

Of course, there is no problem to eat it, so it remains as it is, but the one on the veranda's edge was missing.

It's strange. Incidentally, I thought about looking back to see if the blueberries I bought store-bought had blooms on them, but I don't think they did.

The harvest is decreasing, but I'm happy to see that we still get it.

The top right is the one I left too long after I took it. It still doesn't change the taste. The texture is different though.

Folks, I really recommend blueberries. I could go on and on. I highly recommend it.

This is the seedling of my Rabbit Eye Blueberry.

I grow it in one plant, but it produces better fruit if I plant two plants together.

This is a second year seedling, so we can expect to see fruit without waiting too long! If you might be moving out soon, don't worry.

Yes, there are no other photos this time around.

Did you forget to take a picture? You might be thinking...

It's true that I forgot to take a picture, but the biggest reason is that everything has withered away.

The raspberries also wilted in the end of the summer, due to the heat, plus many days in August when we were out and about without watering. I actually had some of them on me, but I couldn't take all of them.

I'm sure there will be more next year, so I'm going to share it with someone else.

The dill had already started to wither last month or so, but in August, the inside of the stem was completely hollow and brown.

Most of the beets are also overgrown and the grass is withered. I will show you in next month's home gardening diary.

Incidentally, all the 20-day-old daikon radish's berries broke off because they were left too much.

I'm going to be careful next year.

How did you like the article?

I know this post is a simple one, but there was a lot going on in September and I'm really looking forward to sharing it with you!

Thank you for reading to the end!
